Neutrino grade 2,5-Diphenyloxazole, commonly known as PPO, is a primary scintillator and allows for the direct transfer of energy between the excited solvent molecules and scintillators to produce a light signal capable of detection in a neutrino detector. Neutrino grade PPO has extremely low level of radioactive impurities.

Overview
Neutrino grade PPO, IUPAC preferred name 2,5-Diphenyl-1,3-oxazole, has an aromatic ring structure fundamental for fluorescent properties.
Neutrino grade PPO is well-suited for use as a scintillator in neutrino detection and is used in maximizing the sensitivity of neutrino detectors. This grade of PPO has a high level of purity and can be used in experiments which require ultra-low background environments.
Revvity's neutrino grade PPO has high purity and a low level of trace amounts of Potassium-40 (40K) and Uranium/Thorium decay series elements.
The molecular formula of PPO is C15H11NO, a melting point of 70 - 72°C and a fluorescence maximum of 362 nm.
