Overview

Choline is a vitamin-like family of quaternary ammonium salts that appear in the head groups of phosphatidylcholine and sphingomyelin, phospholipids present in cell membranes. Choline is also the precursor of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. [Methyl-3H] choline chloride has been used to study choline uptake, acetylcholine release, and cellular phospholipid efflux studies.
