Extracellular vesicles (EVs) represent a fascinating frontier in biomarker discovery. Secreted by virtually all cell types, these vesicles circulate in biological fluids carrying molecular cargo that reflects their parent cells’ composition - offering unique insights into cellular function and disease processes through minimally invasive sampling.
Effective isolation and characterization methods are required to make the most of the valuable information contained within EVs. Traditional approaches are often labor-intensive and demand large sample volumes, but recent advances help address these limitations.
This literature review explores the emerging role of EVs as biomarkers and the technical advances overcoming key barriers to their application in research and diagnostic applications.
