We recently had the pleasure of hosting a webinar featuring Dr. Britton Strickland, a renowned expert who received his Ph.D. in Microbe-Host Interactions from Vanderbilt University. Dr. Strickland, with his extensive experience in microbiology, next-gen sequencing, and bioinformatics, currently aids researchers in their microbiome projects as a Field Application Scientist at CosmosID.

In our webinar, Dr. Strickland shared his expertise on a systems biology approach, utilizing multiomics to delve deeper into microbial populations in any environment. His role at Cosmo ID involves supporting researchers’ data analysis needs with cloud-based microbiome analysis software.

He also explained the concept of 16S profiling using the NEXTFLEX™ 16S rRNA library prep kits which allow you to take your entire DNA contents from your sample and use specific primers to target conserved regions within the bacterial genomes. The bioinformatics works by trimming different primers and adapters off of the sequencing reads, merging the paired end reads, and then clustering similar DNA sequences based on their similarity.

During the webinar, Dr. Strickland demonstrated how to navigate through 16S data. He showed how to select a file, view different metadata categories, and edit these metadata variables. He also explained how to generate comparative analysis, which is particularly useful for researchers.

The webinar was an insightful session, and we’re sure our audience found it as enlightening as we did. If you missed the webinar, don’t worry! You can watch the full recording of the Revolutionizing microbiome research with enhanced analysis on-demand webinar.

Stay tuned for more such informative sessions!
